What you say is very true and having spoken to KR on the phone a couple of times a year ago I have to say that his manner could do with some polish.I found him to be a little curt,,monosyllabic, and at times had an air of impatience. These are not the attributes you want to portray to govt officials especially Tz.. (where i once lived).
So question arises,,, has this contributed to the less than stellar relations in Tz, italy and now UK ? Very possibly.
From experience in these regions,, if you appear pushy, impatient then they do the opposite of what you want.. Money issues can be less important ( some govt officials are filthy rich already and probably much more so than the westerners they deal with )Showing deference is paramount after all we are on there turf.
A deferential tone must be used at all times ,,any slips will be remembered. Engaging in cross cultural relations can be akin to treading through a feild of land mines. Tread carefully.
I note that KEY has contracted special negotiators as intermediaries,,, perhaps they should of done them same for the Italy/UK.
Regardless,, I think outcomes will be positive and especially like the 3km pipieline link murmurs on an earier post. Thats great news in itself. If KEY go into a trading halt regarding the go ahead for the Tz pipeline link up ,,the sp will be huge especially if it was done after hours.
