Well... read this as a cut and paste response to a customer complaint where the "going price" was $169 and the "discount" price was $95.. yet the Motel Chain Accommodation Guide set the going price at.. Yes $95...would you use them again.

    Dear XXXX

The rate you are referring to is known as the rack rate, a rack rate is the maximum rate (full rate) that a property will ever charge for a room. While this rate is rarely charged, it is how the Industry determines the saving they are receiving. You will find the rack rate is charged in peak periods such New Years Eve and during busy events.

A hotel by law (or per association) each year has to list its published rates. All hotel properties have their own set of rates in a tiered rate system. The rack rate is the premium rate and in fact is the least sold rate at almost all properties.

The rates on our website (and other websites similar to ours) are commonly known as 'standby rates' and are generally the lowest rate a hotel will ever charge for a room or the minimum that they can afford to charge.

The hotels are required to provide us with hard copy proof of the rack rate for each season and room type. This information is recorded until the hotel season changes and a new rack rate is requested.

If you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the Wotif.com Customer Service Team via email or telephone, 24 hours a day.

    Kind Regards,
