C Parker It's interesting that you can buy "plenty of other assets at 40-50% discount" when we are living through a massive asset price boom caused by quantative easing.
Sure you can buy last century's assets such as Fairfax's printing presses at such a discount but it's a stretch applying it to AAC and when you look at prices being paid for big Northern Cattle stations (Brett Blundy - Walhallow $100 million - Peter Hughes Tumbar $67 million) its hard to see how you could buy stations equivalent to the AAC stations for less than book value let alone a 40-50% discount.
Its been said that what gives assets value is "scarcity" and/or "efficiency". The AAC land assets are "scarce" and Jason Strong and co are working on improving their "efficiency" and at the same time smoothing out market fluctuations through the branded beef business.
