You do realise this is exactly that its just a copy process via ftp or sftp from one location to another or a database dump / restore. There is nothing fancy about this, ps its not fast. Its very slow.
This is a the slowest possible way of doing backups. Have a look and block based backups / data encryption.
Idera R1soft uses this technique which is an industry leader for 3rd party backup solutions.
