I'm currently working along side someone whom recently was working for MMG abroad in the DRC. 6 weeks on 3 weeks off.

He said that it was very different to mining in Aus. the camp/minesite was infact fortified and armed security was actually a thing. regardless in his 6 months there, they never had a single incident at their mine.

he maintains that the camps and facilities were even better than the likes of bhp and rio.

Apparently the only issues they ever faced was a few locals stealing bits of equipment to use for home/shelter. not nearly as criminal at some of the absorbent prices I've seen contractors charge the mining magnets in WA.
