There is little doubt that Yeo is shallow, immature and dishonest but it seems unlikely that one junior minister, along with a few environmentalist allies, could have such influence over government policy unless there were others who wish to destroy Lynas supporting and directing her.

Mahathir appears to be a person of some intelligence. it's inconceivable that he is unaware of the damage this controversy is doing to Malaysia's reputation as a destination for corporate, international investment.

The obvious, but unanswered, question is -- Why doesn't he put a stop to this bizarre nonsense?
