Excellent honest article. Four years back I did some months of pro-bono work for "Road to Paris COP" in ASEAN - the build up events to the Paris UN Climate Conference. I was curious to see this phenomena from the inside.
I deeply respect Scientists, technological innovation, business innovation and active problem solvers.
Good stewardship of our environment is a no-brainer - it calls for rational, honest and balanced assessment, material efficiency, and sound management. Yes, environmental degradation is a cost, dumped by polluters, borne by others.
A big issue: the annual "haze" experienced in South East Asia, created in the large part by land burning for plantations (e.g. oil palm), carries a cost to others in tens of billions - resource destruction, health issues, disruption to other business, et al.
And the benefit? Land burning is around USD 20 dollars cheaper per hectare than (smoke free) mechanical clearing.
Hugely disproportionate cost/benefit - the case for good stewardship is very obvious. But that 20 bucks hard cash to goes into pockets, and the politics behind it is shabby stuff.
There was some collusion to keep up the burning, with demands for "rich-world" financial compensation to stop polluting - many corrupt hands angling for a grab-fest.
So to the bad bits of Paris COP - carpetbaggers, politicians, narcissistic fanatics.
What really struck me is that "Global Warming movement" operates as a medieval-minded "end of days cult".
The plain folk must whip themselves for humanity's sins, while high priests Bono and Al Gore feast on their private carbon spewing jets.
Any soul who even probes "The Science" becomes a devil possessed heretic, personally responsible for the future murder of millions.
"Decision making" is infected by lies and hysteria - effective solutions like (God-forbid) new-nuclear, or even improving energy grid efficiencies (an effective 20% increase in output) are simply "immoral" ideas - all as suits the sleazy politicians, profiteers, and narcissists who milk it.
Sitting in stretch limos drinking champagne with partying, self-righteous "greenies" was weird enough, but when these "greenies" started to plan their accommodation in Paris they declared it essential to stay at a very exclusive rural Chateaux hotel (used by Hollywood stars, etc), which brought people into the city by helicopter service. "To get people to go green we have to make it super sexy" they so virtuously explained.
Any honest greenie watching the "Global Warming" Cult hijack their
honourable cause must feel ill - but seems for the masses this end-of-days-cult is still well cloaked by the corrupt high-priests of politics and media.
Frankly, compare Yeo's CNBC interview to the warm, sweet, masterful and treacle-like lies of say Bill Clinton or the untouchable Saint Obama, and you see Yeo is a lamb, a rank amateur in the "virtue" swamp.
As clear-as-day, she knows the truth about Lynas, and shows she feels very uncomfortable.
Even with the MSM TV station helpfully flashing their logo to cover her face exactly at the "gotcha-moment", it cannot be disguised. Yeo is informed and rational.
Yet politically Yeo's got a hand of cards to play - the greenie Queen card is one of her best hopes.
Good to keep the pressure on Yeo; yet give her a sensible escape route.
She's not a reckless Fuzzy or Wrong Un - her job entails embracing their voter base - play stupid to divert them from the clutches of the dangerously stupid.
Malaysia's Lynas opportunity is being steadily walked through all this BS towards a optimised outcome. That's good news.
