With all due respect I disagree.

I eat a fair bit of pizza ('the real deal woodfired stuff', 'dominos' and supermarket). With Dominos their $5 range (all the time) is a huge winner pricewise and quality wise. They have limited their cheap menu from what it was a few years ago but is still pretty good. My rule of thumb now is unless it's woodfired, I'll always try to get Dominos.

Frozen pizza is about on par pricewise with dominos (but Dominos pizza quality wise trump it heaps and it's cooked for you) - Dr Oetker's is regarded as one of the better brands and you can see Woolies have it on promotion for $5 - same price as Dominos extra value.

Fresh stuff (for the 'better quality' coles homebrand is about $7-8 bucks), the crust is nowhere near as good as dominos but toppings maybe a bit better - you still have to make it yourself though, dominos you can buy and eat there if you so wish.

In addition, I track dominos coupons and lately there's been a reemergence of buy 1 get 1 free (and 50% off ones), which makes their traditional range about $4.50 and value slightly less. Their traditional range has far better styles than the extra value.


I think a lot of the Dominos hate is people not knowing there are always coupons (if you buy Dominos without a coupon - unless it's the $5 range - you're doing it wrong. Also if you don't buy online you're doing it wrong). Often I'll see people in Dominos who obviously don't know how it works so tell them about the coupons etc. Yes it's unhealthy food, but the dough is made fresh (not sure why so many people say it's frozen) and tbh pizza's not particularly healthy in the first place.

Don Meij knows how to run a pizza company, I have full faith in him. I'm confident he'll meet guidance at the end of the year or come much closer than others predict. Still think the shares a bit expensive for my liking (and earlier in the year they started killing some of their better promos which I feel hurt sales), but I still really love the business.
