Actually I just checked my facts on that and it actually looks like you in fact need to hold a stock on the 45th day after it goes ex divvy.
Importantly, smaller investors are exempt so if you collect less than $5k worth of tax credits per year the 45 day rule does not apply so if you are investing with smaller amounts you should be able to collect about $15K worth of divvies before that kicks in.
