see recent post by phil bush at the intelligent investor re the dividend. as noted in the most recently monthly report from PAI, they are starting to accumulate cash for a dividend once franking credits are adequate. i suspect this will be in around 6months, especially given the recent exciting performance of the fund, however phil says may be up to 12months which i suspect is conservative (assuming no market shocks etc).

this should give a nice boost to the psi share price and help close the nta gap now that options have expired and the underperformance of china and pai has clearly turned to outperformance relative to the asx.

Hi, Platinum Asia Investments (ASXAI) is waiting until it has enough franking credits before it pays a dividend, as it wants them to be fully franked. The LIC has had substantial carried forward tax losses, and as such is not paying tax at the moment, and therefore not generating franking credits. The company noted in its recent half-year results, that it needs to earn another $5.4m of realised income before it starts paying tax and generating franking credits. Therefore it depends on the performance of the LIC over the coming period as to whether dividends will soon be forthcoming. If you assume the company's performance continues as it has recently, dividends could be possible in the next 12 months. If you put tax to one side, in the six months to 31 Dec 2016, the LIC reported Net Profit After Tax of $10.3m which is equivalent to 3.5 cents per share. To show its commitment to paying a dividend, the company has transferred this profit into the dividend profit reserve in readiness for paying dividends in the future. Cheers Phil
