well actually I have, as I used to import cars from Japan, and yes there are a lot of taxes paid on cars, with tax added to them here to protect the local industry.
but it is a a unique purchase for those reasons.
a TV or a Computer is not threatening the local industry cause ther is none for one major reason
Also the cars I bought were second hand
NEW ones in to Australia... think that is not possible unless it is a UNIQUE model under CAMS rules.
so to get back to the POINT
YOU cant charge a tax here only an import levy or a stamp duty. better that we wait for the AUSSIE to drop if you want to kerb the influx internet purchases.
and hopefully by that time the hangers on in HN HQ will have lost their jobs in a cleansing that should start with Ms Page getting out of the retailing business as she knows far far less than she thinks and has pushed HN's into expensive and bad decisions in her dream of creating HARVEY NORMAN into a department store.
They should go back to what they did best.
Get the good frqanchisees back and let the franchise guys make the decisions.
Then trim the fat from their HQ in flemington.
remeber,the guys at the coal face run their small shows for the better of the bigger show!!!
and the yes men are removed from the equation
