I agree when you are talking about combining.
Devices are becoming multi-purpose and also, they are becoming conduits or at least partner devices for extended uses.
Phones/apps have become an extension of our day to day activities and needs (some wasteful, but others, useful) - torches, gps, cameras, email. Then you have the conduit such as Bluetooth and NFC. Even little things on any given day become convenient - I needed to print out a document (which I could access via my phone) urgently yesterday, so I just sent it to a Wifi printer that was nearby.
Embedding technology into glasses for example (e.g. bluetooth access to your phone with eye movement control), might be another Dick Tracy watch type concept that will become mainstream in the next decade. Eye movement technology is already revolutionalising the way Quadriplegics can use computers, so combining and embedding this into screen control in a pair of glasses will likely happen.
Its all a bit scary when one recalls kicking a ball around with the neighbourhood kids, climbing trees, riding billycarts, sending postcards etc as opposed to Playstation, Messaging/Social Media etc
