Village Roadshow gets back on track

It seems the worst is over for Village Roadshow. Its shares have gained
15per cent over the past 12 months and market players are beginning to
sniff the cinema production and exhibition company out. Deutsche Bank's
Mike Mangan says in a report that over the past three years, Village has
substantially addressed three-quarters of the market's concerns.

His sum-of-the-parts valuation has a wide range but the lower end of
$2.75 remains well above Village's closing price of $2.20 yesterday, and
his high end of $5.35 hints that the stock may be worth a punt. "Part of
our enthusiasm for Village revolves around their cash flows," he notes.
"Operating cash flow has grown about 120 per cent per annum, compound,
    in the last decade."

He argues that market concerns regarding management intentions are
misplaced - the wealth impact from a 10 per cent rise in Village shares
represents almost four times the collective salaries of executives.

Village is similar to US entertainers that typically trade for between
10and 12 times earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and
amortisation. But to be re-rated, Mangan says, Village must remove its
legal and tax issues, own 100 per cent of its businesses and improve
    visibility.
