These are just my observations as I understand them.

The hydraulic method used in the Ceto 5 demonstration has been canned.

Instead I believe that creating electricity offshore (Ceto 6) connected by cable to a conventional desalination plant ashore is more efficient in a number of ways.

One being that they are able to position arrays much further off shore. Using the hydraulic method meant that they were restricted to locations within 2 or 3 km from the onshore desalination plant (all to do with pressure loss over distance).

WaveHub and Garden Island will have C6 arrays about 16 km from shore.

This gives greater access to high energy wave resources. Also I would suggest it is easier and cheaper to run out electrical cable on the sea floor than it is to lay hydraulic pipeline.

Now that CCE has moved into microgrid technology, means that power produced by any method, can be used to run the desalination plant.

The output from Ceto 6 should outperform the obsolete Ceto 5 by many multiples.

In summary, much bigger buoys in a higher energy environment.

This is my understanding as a layman. I would welcome anyone with engineering expertise to put some polish on what I have written.
