The GI shift to Albany was I suspect steered by the WA Govt/ feds. The govt has leverage unfortunately - they've given a bucket load of cash and if CCE want to use it, they'll have to go where the Govt tells them. The govt wanted the first one to be at the Albany wave centre (as that is good for business). There's no point having a wave centre when there are no projects there. I think that GI and Wavehub UK will get the ceto projects that have been promised and I'm with mega in that these sites have not been ruled out. I suspect you will see Albany get installed and if that works you will see concurrent project development at GI and wave hub (along with the 2nd phase of Albany). hopefully the 3rd phase of Albany will come after them.
1st phase - 1MW ceto6
2nd phase - 20MW expansion (21MW installed)
3rd phases (optional) 100MW installed capacity
I do question why Albany needs 100MW as that is far greater than the region needs (unless this is for decades in future) or the govt is thinking that if they installed 100MW now, they can meet their commitments on the various agreements they are signed up to.
Back just after when the 12MW wind farm was built I believe they produced 60% of Albany's needs.
We also have Mauritius in the wings - is there still a wave monitoring program there?
If ceto 6 works as the theoretical and scale modelling shows then we will definitely be on a winning solution. Fill those suckers with witt turbines and you'll have units that can push far more than 1MW. Optimising the design so it compares to or beats wind. Then we will have a product that can be implemented among the wind turbines in those big ocean based wind farms. providing further value for clients (wind is tricky on big farms as the wake from outer turbines limits the turbines in the middle) so wave converters would be beneficial to keep base load higher when turbines are throttled or underutilised).
