I haven’t seen anywhere that CCE has said that they will never have a wave array at the Garden Island site.
Politics played a pretty big part in them moving to Albany, no question. While at first I was like you and thought GI was the place they should trial C6. I am beginning to see how Albany may have longer term benefits.
Even without a wave array, CCE has an asset at GI in the solar/desalination microgrid. It is one that can be expanded with additional solar, battery storage, desalination, wave energy and even wind energy.
The surveying and other preparatory work done for GI will not be wasted if they at some time build a wave array there.
In accepting the relocation to Albany, the chances of having arrays at both are increased, IMO.
I would not be surprised, if CCE are planning on increasing the capacity of the Garden Island Microgrid Project right now.
HMAS Sterling is way short of being fully developed even though it is already Australia’s biggest navy base.
The small microgrid that CCE has built will need to grow as the base grows. The beauty is, that microgrids are modular, so that extra capacity can be bolted on when the time is right.
I am thinking the installation of cabling that has delayed commissioning is because of future requirements as opposed to current ones.
I don’t think we will have to wait long before we see the unveiling of plans to expand the GI microgrid.
Meantime, CCE can get on with putting a demonstration C6M at Albany.
