DENMARK has confirmed nine more cases of the deadly H5N1 strain of the bird flu virus, the country's veterinary authorities said today, two days after nine tufted ducks were found to be H5-infected.
They were found in the town of Aeroeskoebing, on the small island of Aeroe in the south of the country on Sunday.
The total number of H5N1 cases in Denmark has now reached 10, Jan Mousing, head of the Institute for Food and Veterinary Research, said.
Further tests on the ducks would be run in Britain, he said.
The first case of H5N1 bird flu in Denmark was found Thursday, in a wild buzzard on Svinoe on the island of Zealand, south of Copenhagen.
The H5N1 strain of bird flu, in its most aggressive form, has killed nearly 100 people worldwide, according to the World Health Organisation.
