The article was pure entertainment and was meant to provoke thought a bit like a sci-fi book. It’s full of conjecture and opinions. A bit like an astrology report. Nothing wrong with any of that, there must always be room for expanding the mind about future possibilities.
Regarding Lithium becoming the default technology for energy storage for EVs, I’m not so sure that fat lady has sung yet. Research continues at a frenetic pace to develop safer storage technologies with much higher energy densities.
The elephant in the room with EVs becoming mainstream is where the energy to charge their batteries is going to come from. And how the grid is going to deliver the massive amounts of energy required by these vehicles.
Very roughly, 100 km uses about 15KWh which is a bit more than what the average home uses every day. So every new EV in your suburb is the equivalent of a new house being built. How will the grid cope with this near instantaneous increased demand?
I’m very pro EV, my next car in 2-3 years time will be one. Jaguar I-Pace looking very attractive.
