Well, for a start it's not a supergene zone. That's something completely different.

My take is that for the most part it's lateritisation of olivine that gives the large anomaly. I would hope the review will find a way to discriminate between nickel from olivine vs nickel From sulphide. Multi element anomalism of nickel+copper+PGE is usually sulphide related. Nickel alone is plagued with problems where olivine nickel can drown out sulphide nickel signature in the regolith.
