I think virtually everyone who has or is invested in DGR got in for the same reason. I'm sure I'm not alone in appreciating your input be it positive or negative or just out of curiousity.
You may well be right, and on the DGR boards there is always a healthy mix of optimism, frustration & cynicism that would reflect this.
The only thing I'd add is that depending on your circumstances, CGT discounting can also play a part. If I did trade DGR regularly, the benefit may be eroded if/when the big day comes for SOLG. I believe its reasonable to offset this against the opportunity cost you mention earlier.
