Wow, an expert in database technology has just posted an incorrect comment about the business GU2 Global (MOT) are in and the business conducted within the "growing market penetration of Multidimensional databases" Firstly IMO a Multidimensional databases is normally created from the extrapolation of many environments within disparate platforms to a data-warehouse that would use an OLAP (online analytical processing)and a cube that is part of the broader category of business intelligence, which also encompasses relational database, report writing and data mining.
Now FYI the business of converting a Microsoft Access environment to SQL Server or even ORACLE (not Orica as stated in your post, well I hope not as they are the largest provider of commercial explosives and blasting systems to the mining industry)is a different methodology and needs to be created and delivered before being placed into the above mentioned data-ware-house environment IMO.
So have they been trumped? I would say not, otherwise why is there over 400 million Access databases and clients looking to migrate due to Microsoft ceasing the support of Windows XP and Office 2003 on April the 8th this year?
So DYOR but you might find that your LACK of knowledge of the database development industry and your definite misunderstanding of architectural database structuring and the delivery information required for multiple database systems delivered at one time concerns me. While relational databases are considered to be two-dimensional, OLAP data is multidimensional, meaning the information can be compared in many different ways. But then again I guess you already know this, correct? Feel free to do your own research and if you would like to have a lesson in Database Technology I can introduce you to one of Australia's leading OLAP specialists (he is a buddy of mine and was happy to pass this information to me today) but please DYOR
