Remote project creates a virtual team...
14 March, 2019
An isolated project site proved no barrier for the Wood team inAsia Pacific as they recently completed an EPC project at the Mereenie GasPlant, approximately 300 kilometres west of Alice Springs in the heart of theAustralian outback.
The project wasfast-tracked to upgrade the existing Mereenie Gas Plant from 30 to 44 TJ/dsales gas by the end of 2018, in order to meet a market opportunity presentedby the Northern Gas Pipeline (NGP). The project commenced from the initialconcept select study in late 2017, through to the later FEED phase, with Woodselected on a sole source basis as EPC contractor for the project. The EPCphase contract was awarded in August 2018, with the project ready forcommissioning date achieved ahead planned date of 30 November 2018.
The projectinvolved cooperation from Wood team members in four locations in Australia andIndia (Melbourne, Mereenie, Sale and Chennai). Creating the virtual team were18 employees onsite at the Mereenie Gas Plant supported by another 60 employeesin the design office in Melbourne and client project office in Brisbane.
XXXXX, RemoteSupport Manager for the project said “Award of the EPC contract to Wood for theproject was built on maintaining strong relationships between the Wood andCentral Petroleumproject teams. The team did an exceptional job to deliver toclient expectations both technically and reaching the scheduled milestones.”
Key to thesuccess of the project was the utilisation of Wood’s site mobilisation toolsand procedures, plus cold eyes management oversight. This ensured the projectwas ready to mobilise on the required date and maintain delivery with no safetyincidents. Despite an aggressive schedule for start- up the team managed aseamless progression from the early engineering phases that kicked off inDecember 2017 all the way through to mechanical completion in November 2018 andprovided the client with a fit for purpose solution. This remains a fantasticexample of pull-through from one phase of delivery to another for Wood.
