The CSIRO give very little away on the linked pages from @nidrac, however, reading between the lines, it is more likely that Pyrophos is the CSIRO's "reinvention" of furnace acid or Kiln Phosphoric Acid (KPA), which as this link to the JDC site shows, has been around since 1890, http://jdcphosphate.com/phosphates-101/the-furnace-acid-process/
The CSIRO state that the process is "partly new and partly conventional" and then talk about their top submerged lance (TSL) technology, so I'm guessing that they have applied TSL to KPA to create Pyrophos. The picture that they show of the slag, indicates that there is a significant difference in the form of the residue, which underlines the physical differences in the processes. The CSIRO slag is angular fragments of different sizes, whereas the IHP process produces regular sized "balls" as a byproduct.
And, of course, the IHP process is protected by international patents, which CSIRO would obviously respect. So one must conclude that the processes are different.
It does, of course, underline that this type of technology is seen as the next evolution in phosphoric acid production, so it's great that AEV is a participant in its development and a beneficiary of exclusive, IHP licences.
As @Barry81 points out, JDC appears to be much further down the path to commercialisation than CSRIO, however, in the end, it will be economics, and in particular, energy consumption per unit of P2O5, that will determine the success of the competing technologies.
