Article implies that takeup of the residential PV feed in tariff has been so successful that the stability of the electricity grid may be degraded by the power being fed into it.

Must be major no news day for the Australian. The WA energy minister and Western Power say there is no problem and no plan to reduce the rate of PV installations.

With over 40,000 PV applications in, and assuming 1.5kWp each, that implies that the scheme has helped install about 60MWp of PV. WA south-west grid is about 6GW of generation capacity with about 4GW used at most time. So the PV FIT in WA is taking about 1-1.5% of the load off the grid. Domestic power (i.e. in the suburbs close to the PV installations) is roughly 30% of total supply so the PV FIT could be supplying over 3% of domestic suburban power, especially in winter when the grid demand is lowest and silicon panels are most efficient.

Come on, The Australian, raise the standard of your reporting.
