It's not easy to be green Read the fine print Landscaper Rick Shepherd was so keen to sign up to Green Power that he didn't read the fine print when a salesman came knocking. Shepherd signed up for a plan with Jackgreen last year, paying a penalty of about $100 to leave his existing contract with Energy Australia. But he was unaware that the plan Jackgreen sold him still provided most of his power from old renewable sources...When I rang to ask they said most of their green energy was not accredited. They told me it came from old wind farms in Western Australia.
"I thought I was signing up for new renewable power sources in NSW that would be replacing coal power stations."
Shepherd admits he did not ask enough questions before signing but alleges he was misled by the salesman into believing he would be reducing greenhouse gas emissions
