Desire trust me on this. Im a dual citizen. My father is a major businessman in sl. We own steel refinery and own many factories (formerly textile), we are the landlord in a hospital run by HEMAS. We own a hotel called seaview. We have many interests in sri lanka. You might ask why we live in Australia- he was kidnapped by a business partner and political scenario in SL was scary with communist group in JVP creating chaos. Trust me on this. While sl is not norway and corruption is high, people like J packer and countries like israel do not get involved in countries where they have no benefit in. The tamil war was worsened with external influence as SL is an old established trade route and a brilliant location from a security perspective.
People in the west need to realise a country can still function thru turmoil providing the threats or problems can be contained. As long as SL has international partners - be it the middle east, the west or the east in india or china, it will progress.
The current government is a coalition and purpose on the ground to reduce the corruption and disharmony with good relationships with all international bodies. It is not confrontational and reconciliation. The threat is not a civil war again as the ltte (tigers) were wiped out. Those days are gone and no one wants to revisit it. So relax. Using an article from bbc to create a picture of chaos is stupid. How do you think would the perception of australian protests recently with violent pictures be percieved overseas? However what is the reality. Often can be 2 different things. So chill.
Uf sovereign risk is a factor, most countries excluding the scandinavian ones are not worth doing business with.

There endeth the lesson Desire. Sensationalistic media with an agenda vs Insaf who has very close ties and a detailed knowledge of SL and SL business. The same old claptrap gets bandied around by the media prior to elections. Boring news doesn't sell my friend. The old adage of don't believe everything you read in the newspapers, appears to be on point.
Just sayin'
