Just read widely about the tragedy that was Sri Lanka and the strategy, etc employed by Tamils and the final counter-offensive by the army and the circumstances leading to the offensive. (Let me tell you the Tamils were extremely successful for a long time and used some very innovative approaches).

There will always be a Premachandan - you find them everywhere including the IRA, etc.
The country will ultimately unite and prosper - but that will be a long process.
