I think small caps in general are less impacted by day to day market movements, and just do their own thing.
But when large market moves occur (in scales that can make people feel a bear or bull market is underway), then small caps also begin to behave like the broader market.
I think day traders do follow your example. Say a day trader who mainly trades CPV and few other stocks wakes up and sees 2% US market drop. He wouldn’t be buying CPV that day, and similarly does the opposite if market was good. I personally pulled out a small CPV buy order today thinking today maybe a bad day. I was wrong, but I think if many others do the same, it becomes reality.
