Amortised cost is not more conservative, it could be, but by no means has to be. Amortised cost involves virtually the same level of estimation uncertainty to fair value in determining carrying values (being the risked future estimated cash flow stream) and thus income profile - ergo same level of black box. If this is not understood then those commenting on amortised cost don't understand its true mechanics. (I should caveat this by saying this statement is particularly true when considering debts credit-impaired at origination)
