I use the gold price for the Tuesday in the charts, that's the date of the COT data. However, it's annoying that the data isn't released until the Friday of the week. I find it hard to understand how they cant release the report the day after or in real time - their systems should be capable of this, it isn't 1990.
As for your comment, "in other words you are the last to know", the charts are not meant to be used for short term trading or picking exact days for bottoms or tops. Obviously the time lag in data prevents this type of analysis. I do see the data's usefulness where the movement and position size between large speculators and commercials correlates well with directional movements in the gold price short-medium term (4-6 weeks).
I'll update the data over the weekend and if both parties are at similar contract positions to previous gold lows for this year, then it's highly probable the gold price is making another higher low.
