Traditional biocides require much greater concentrations to shock treat established biofilms, this means more toxic compound and greater cost. If BOS can do the dispersion with a low concentration of compound it will be a break-though. I'm looking forward to end April.
It seems we are not competitive against established products in preventing biofilm formation.
At first I was dismayed at the compound being effective for 'only' 4 days. But i had completely the wrong idea on the common usage of the biocides. I saw it as a pain-like coating that would be effective for months. But in the industry the biocides are introduced into the oil/water at concentrations 25 - 200 ppm. Treatment can vary from once daily to once every one or two months for both storage and transportation systems. One document I read said daily treatments were prefered. After some research the 4 days didn't look too bad. About standard I guess.
It will be interesting to see if the Oil industry publications pick up on this test. I'd like to see their views.
Yes, the catheters are disapointing. I thought BOS was making progress on this front with new attachment techniques.
just waiting for that first product to bring in the cash... long way yet I think. Good on the staff at BOS for their efforts with this oil industry test, and good luck in April.
