It depends on the regolith characteristics.
Gold can move physically (usually "downwards") and copper chemically.
Under rare circumstances gold can also move chemically, but it usually requires sulfur, carbon or chloride complexes to be formed which then tranport the gold around due to ground water movements - thinks it called "supergene gold"

The gold anomolies might be areas where gold has been concentrated by a physical processes and could have still come from the same ore body as the copper.
