Until early 2018, the NTT region was still surrounded by 309 mining permits spread across 17 districts with Belu details consisting of 84 permits, North Central Timor (TTU) with 70 permits, Kupang 34 permits, Ende 20 permits and Manggarai with 18 permits.

Mining permits are also found in South Central Timor regency with 16 permits, Rote Ndao 15 permits, Nagekeo 14 permits, Alor 12 permits, East Manggarai 7 permits, Ngada 5 permits, and Sabu Raijua, Sumba Barat Daya (SBD) and Central Sumba respectively 2 permits, 1 West Manggarai, West Sumba and East Sumba. And at the provincial level there are 5 mining permits.

NTT Deputy Governor Josef Nae Soi told Mongabay-Indonesia, in Maumere, Sikka, Saturday (8/9/2018) explained that the mine moratorium would be carried out during its leadership of 5 years.

Josef said that the landscape of NTT was beautiful so that it would not be damaged by the mine. NTT will focus on tourism development so that it remains beautiful and can be sold abroad.

Josef was ready if the moratorium policy was not favored by the mining businessmen and the central government for the benefit of the NTT community. Josef said he did not know the reason for the existence of mines in NTT which were small islands. As a businessman, he knew exactly the profits generated from mines in NTT.
