A great, great shame in this inexorable goose-step of "Progress".
Albeit, on a smaller scale, I too am clutching to some books discarded through Aussie Op-shops or onto the street bins.
No psychological assessment is needed why a beautiful book is admired in its original form; sometimes the leather binding as in pic,

BOOKS.JPG sometimes for its subject and the Author, and so on.
Can't replace the pleasure of fingering beautifully bound book.
A pleasure not replicated by monitor screen or a tablet with all the distractions, inadequacies etc.
Absolute pleasure of trudging to my multi-use loft library and doing sporadic indexing of the salvaged prints.

I also try to salvage disappearing VHS tapes more so for their classy jacket-covers which I place in A4 albums.
Got some 1400+, no longer in abundance in Op-shops.

And another one of my delights is collecting tins and turning them into flat forms.
Also a disappearing part of our dailies; already posted on this hobby.

were tins, here's how it looks now.

So, regrettably Safety1st, as I share your sentiments we must at the same time innoculate against these cultural fade-outs.
As was said in Casablanca, "we will always have Paris". I just enjoy re-visiting in-situ.
    Kudos to your preservation efforts.

    Cheers,
