Amigo, you may be correct. However, let's look at the way things are going at BGL. I'm just a simple person, and anything I have to say is coming from hard experience (that is to say, I am no expert). However, I will ramble on and you can stop reading whenever you like. (Also, I'm a dad, and my children tell me that dads tend to tell people things, even when they are sick and tired of hearing them.)
Basically there are two types of investors: short-term traders and longer-term investors. The important thing for all of us is to decide which of these we are, because the way things go, it is very, very important. Especially if you want to make money from stocks (how stupid of me, I know). Let's consider each in turn.
The short-term trader. This person is looking for repeated cycles in order to rapidly buy and sell. They are not looking at WHY the price is changing, they are looking at WHAT the change is and if they can model it. Typically they are after a trading period when shares may be going up and down in a regular fashion. This trading period can happen whether shares are in a general uptrend or a general downtrend. For example, while BGL is in its current trading cycle they may see good opportunities to buy and sell - making about 0.5c to 1.0c per cycle on shares that are in the range of 50c to 51c. There are good daily volumes with BGL, so they don't have trouble finding a buyer or seller. (Smaller companies with low and irregular volumes are not as suitable for this type of trading.) These traders are after small profits that are multiplied by each trading cycle.
The longer-term investor. This person is focused on the fundamentals of the company. They probably read the company's announcements, the quarterly reports and know the company's finances. They look at reasons WHY the price should change based on its news, they are not looking at WHAT the daily trends are. (That, doesn't mean they are careless when looking for entry or exit points.) They are looking for longer term trends (maybe for the next few months to several years), so they hold their stocks and can become resistent to the regular ups and downs that the short-term trader is following. For BGL, the longer-term trend is going up. To prove it, just look at the chart to the right hand side of the Hot Copper screen. It's even more dramatic if you click to the Yearly chart rather than the monthly.
Conclusion. At the moment the trading of BGL shares is probably due to a mix of short-term traders and longer-term investors. No one has a crystal ball, so it is up to the indivdual to decide who they are and what to do. Each type of investor is trying to make money in the longrun. (Life of Brian: "We are all individuals!")
