Australian Pacific Coal shares spike 25% raising ASX eyebrows, Hancock Prospecting on register

Australian Pacific Coal (ASX: AQC) caught the market attention yesterday with the company's shares rallying 25% to $0.045, compared to the closing price of $0.036 last Friday - and was therefore a recipient of a ASX price query speeding ticket.

Australian Pacific responded to the ASX that the company is not aware of any material information that has not been released to the market which may have sparked the sudden investor interest.

The company did however state back to the ASX:

"The company is aware of and notes that reference was made to it on 19 September 2011 in the Australian Financial Review (page 20: "Street Talk") where it was indicated that entities associated with Mrs Gina Rinehart and Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd may have acquired a shareholding in the company.

"We can confirm that our searches indicate that this is the case."

"We have been able identify entities associated with Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd currently holding 4,275,000 shares in the company representing 0.80% of the issued capital of the company."

Comment:
A small stake by a powerful coal entity. To me this was the final pointer to enter this stock. Yes I could have got in much earlier and for a lot less money (SP) but this is the sign that things may just be on the kettle ready to boil.
