I'ts not about the lack of privacy here as such, it is about smart monitoring morphing into smart control and that transferring into savings through better planned consumption or increased efficiencies, it may even be something as complex  as power companies being able to control or better manage their peak demand times or being able to better control/ predict their grid, though making suggestions to connected homes. Which will become even more relevant when battery tech becomes more affordable.

Smart home hubs will soon be able to open and close blinds, windows, detect fires, intrusions, start and manage washers and HWS, internal and external temp monitoring and how that relates to consumption and insurance costs. For the elderly and infirm they could even detect medical emergencies.

We are in a new frontier here with almost limitless possibilities
