Yes, hydroponics has absolutely massive potential. The article required a subscription, so I couldn't read most of it, but the potential goes way, way beyond cannabis and it fits beautifully with BUD because it needs lights and constant monitoring. Hydroponics can help overcome the dwindling supply of new arable land because plants can be grown in 3D, rather than just 2D (ie in a series of vertical tiers). Lighting, water, temperature, humidity and nutrients are all crucial and need to be accurately monitored and controlled to maximize yields and profitability.
We're at a tipping point here where you don't have to be a futurist to see the potential for change. The same applies to the home, where it's not hard to see a home in the near future that has an integrated control and monitoring system that handles/monitors/records/actions everything from lights, appliances, security cameras, door locks, heating and cooling, solar power generation, battery storage and balancing (home and car), power both to and from the grid etc. etc. etc. The mind boggles.
So yes, there will be plenty of competition and plenty of room for constant innovation. An M&A meat market and a graveyard! It will be a wild ride, so buckle up and if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen!
Can DM and his head staff handle the kitchen is the real question. If head office can't handle the kitchen the outcome is easy to predict more failing, all IMO.
