From memory I think I read earlier this year one third of all laptops die within 3 years. It seems to me it doesn't matter which brand you buy, though some are marginally better than others. The feeling I got was that in the strive to reduce the price of computers the quality has suffered, but that's only my gut feeling.
I think companies work on the theory that after 3 years the computer is worthless and not worth repairing.
