Vodafone used to be the cheapest in the market. They sold on price, and coverage as we know wasn't great.
Vodafone have massively improved their network, it's a great credit to them. I have been critical of Optus Management for slashing mobile prices. Optus really is the bargain carrier along with its MVNOs
When it comes to NBN Telstra is continuing to dominate. TPG selling twice as much as Optus. Optus a very distant third. Optus are buying market share at the moment. It's now showing on Optus' financials. They are blaming the EPL deal but my opinion is that Optus has far deeper problems.
Optus now has 1100 more 700MHz 4G towers than Telstra. So Optus have been spending big... far more than Vodafone.. and maybe Telstra. Optus' bipolar approach to business I find a little troubling. They are trying to be the biggest, the best, and the cheapest all a same time. It's not going to work... Vodafone have not dropped their pants on price and should be commended for sticking to their guns and pricing.
However I do feel the pricing pressure put on Vodafone.. may have consequences in the financials. Hopefully growth at HTA will counteract Optus' blood letting
