Below is a link to an article on Sweden and Uranium mining. The article was written in July 2006. It is very informative and well worth the read as it talks about the politics, attitudes and energy dependencies of the Swedes.
Since the article was written, the Swedes did actually vote in a change of government on 17 Sep 2006, with the center-right alliance taking control as predicted in the article.
The Canadian listed company quoted in this article - Mawson Resources Limited (MAW) - is listed on the TSX - link below.
A few interesting things said by Mawson CEO Michael Hudson (an Aussie by the way) were:-
-- Despite the latitude, Hudson explained, “Mines up there are running all year around.” --
-- While the drilling may have been less methodical, Hudson praises the Swedes for their storage capabilities, “The Swedes claim they’ve got the largest core yard in the world.” --
-- According to Hudson, some of the samples have run up to 20 percent uranium. “Getting these shipped out of Sweden is a challenge, especially with the high grade ones,” he told us. “We have to wrap them in lots of lead, so a few kilos of rock become 40 kilos of lead-covered boxes.” --
They have had some very nice results from Swedish exploration, just check out the News Releases.
You may know this already, but if you read MAW's last quarterly update you will see that the 4 Swedish tenements being offered to Hodges are actually being farmed out by Mawson via a "private, arm's length Australian company" (that would be Widerange Corp. I guess - know anything about them?).
Due diligence ends on 22 April, so we should see some news on 23 April to confirm a farm in or not. Although with Laramide's VP of exploration - Peter Mullens - on board, I'm assuming it's a goer.
Finally, check out the Mawson Resources web site, they have some good info, videos and links.
