one of the downsides to this stock is that the sp can be highly manipulated. So if one is to invest on sp alone it can get pretty scary. My guess is there are a number of people with large holdings now and with these large holdings the potential to put downward pressure on the sp (shaking the tree) and collecting the falling fruit later on is reasonably high.
In addition to this, if the company wishes for whatever reason to keep the sp low for a certain period of time it can mine areas that are high cost per ounce. Conversely, the company can put upward pressure on the sp by mining the areas with known high grade ore with easier access etc.
Investing in gold is not for the faint hearted.
