Trundled to the MCG on Friday night. Traffic chaos around the ground due to eff’ing infrastructure only to arrive at Gate 5 as the match started with at least 600 hundred other fans trying to get through security. Missed first 10 minutes. FFFFFFFFFFFFF.....K! I hate not seeing the first bounce. And this was after we left home 30 minutes earlier than normal. FFFFFFFFF.....K! And on top of that it was incredibly hot and humid, in fact the hottest I have ever been at a night time footy match.
I should reserve theFFFFFF.....K! For Collingwood’s performance. The Pies were riddled with poor ball delivery, poor decision making and sloppy ball handling. Geelong was no better. I have never seen so many dropped marks with both teams guilty. Game won in last quarter when Dangerfield, Hawkins and Joel Selwood finally got going.
Collingwood was beaten in centre squares clearances most of the night. Rhys Stanley more than held his own against All Australian Brodie Grundy. Collingwood mids surprisingly looked slow. Jaidyn Stephenson needs to get more of the ball otherwise he will lose his spot.
Jack Crisp had a shocker and is in line for a spell in the reserves.
Bright spots for Collingwood were 3 goals to Jamie Elliott and the intercept marking of Darcy Moore. Langdon was cool in defence. Jack Henry looks to be the goods for Geelong.
Umpiring decisions bewildering at times and especially compared to othe matches I have seen since. The protected zone rule was thrown out on Friday night, but enforced last night in the West Coast match, go figure.
Unfortunately Collingwood deserved to lose its opening round match. Bucks would have been fuming after the game.
Last night we were out out celebrating the birthday of Mrs. Daicosisgod only to arrive home to see the Lions dishing it up to ‘The Toast’. What a surprise to turn on the tv half way through Q3. West Coast players looked knackered against the young lions. West Coast will be better with Andrew Gaff back in the team.
