Well, if the feelings expressed in these two news items on Coeur's Kensington Alaska mine are representative, I don't think we're going to see a mine there any time soon.
This first one [http://www.alaskajournal.com/stories/060307/hom_20070603029.shtml] deals with the dock which was to be built. It seems that the enviros don't just object to it, because it's part of the mine infrastructure - they think it might upset the herring.
Then, there's this one [http://www.alaskajournal.com/stories/060307/hom_20070603030.shtml] in which a quaintly named group, called the "Renewable Resources Coalition" profess great concern about more than just the tailings dump; they are more generally concerned that such a large mine would endanger sockeye salmon.
A $206 million, scuttled by seafood!
