Thanks for this @procrastinato
It's a tricky one but I believe in my opinion there really is not too many good Cobalt projects on the ASX.
A lot of money has been already made on a lot of the companies but there really isn't a lot of standout projects with LOWISH Capex/Opex which is of course the next step after initial exploration.
Sure if you are into the Pump&Dump speculative type of projects relying on the odd drill hole or rock chips to spruik then there are a few risky plays out there.
However I believe the market is waking up to a lot of the studies being currently done now on advanced explorer projects and quite simply probably are not impressed with high capex numbers being released, north of USD $400mill for 2MTPA plant.
Where are companies going to get such exhorbitant funding from?
It's all well having a big resource but half a million Aussie dollars is no chicken feed to exploration companies
I also believe perhaps Cobalt prices may come back a little or consolidate around current levels through the Northern Hemisphere Summer holiday months, although this can change very abruptly, especially with DRC conflicts still very much in the air.
If you believe in the EV/battery storage revolution then you would have to believe that current Cobalt prices should remain high for the foreseeable future until an adequate replacement comes out, but like everything, new technologies take time to flood the market.
Advanced Cobalt projects that can show the market a) that there is a Quality Resource, b) it is a Economic operation with low Capex + Opex then these are the projects I am sure smart investors will invest in (another factor being the weakish US Market climate) rather than investing in high risk, high capex projects.
As usual, all the above are my views
