Coles Supermarkets:
Went to our local Coles supermarket to do some shopping today. Got to the cash registers, of which there were 5 (50%) open with 4 people/trolleys lined up behind each one.
Why have 10 registers when in peak times you only open 5?
Myers Department Stores:
Like visiting one of the trash and treasure outlets of days gone by.
Rummage through (Salvation Army store like) bins/racks to find what you want. Perish the thought you may need a staff member for assistance.
K Mart
The prices they charge are full (max) recommended retail for any item. Even then plus some.
Weber BBQ I bought at Kmart for $299 was being sold at nearby Myer Megamart for $269 (RRP). Back to K Mart and they honoured their price guarantee of 10% of the difference, i.e. $3.00 refund - whoopee.
Target
Why buy it today when tomorrow the same item will be 20% off?
Quaffers/Liquor Mart
They toss out a few specials but overall their prices are full retail. Dan Murphy (WOW) is always cheaper.
On balance, if one wanted exposure to the retail sector why on God's earth would you choose CML?
They are a dysfunctional company with management unable to fully deliver the full potential on any of their operating divisions.
Either (a)management must change their approach to managing the business' or (b) they split CML up into the various divisions.
I favor the latter, and predict this will happen within 24 months.
