I am clear with that Aus. But she is off the impression she can add in new licence conditions when it is renewed. One of those conditions is to ship the residue out of the country, another is to charge a 1% tax on turnover (what was it called again? R&D tax?)

I'm in two minds about this. I think it's fair and reasonable for a licence issuing body to be able to make amendments to license conditions as circumstances arise. Like the NSW government deciding not to register cars with takata airbags in the best interests of the population.

However that needs to be balanced against the reasons why and the severity of the impact. I guess that's for courts to decide if it can't be negotiated. Condisoil seems so obvious to me as a perfectly fine solution. Even a PDF will have lower radioactivity than the compost bin at a banana plantation so that seems obvious to me too. I'm fine with Lynas battling Kitty over these arguments. And the 1% tax, how long before it becomes 2 or 5 or 10% as NdPr prices go up and Lynas becomes really profitable.

Lynas needs to draw a line in the sand and battle, giving anything without a fight just encourages the bully to take more.

@TheDean noted, and I noticed it too but didn't think much of it at the time, that Kitty is frustrated by Lynas

"According to (her), Lynas's unwillingness to cooperate with the government will only tackle bilateral ties."

what, now that things aren't going her way she's worried about bilateral ties? To me this is progress. Lynas are wearing her down and she's being forced to change tack and back down step by step.

There is a lot of chess pieces moving in the background and I think Kitty is all about trying to save face with her social media and press statements.

The thing that grates me the most is that of everything that is environmentally unfriendly about Lynas, the radioactivity of the WLP is pretty much my least concern. If Kitty was championing for Lynas to use 100% renewable energy in its production and inputs I'd be on her side.
