I am inclined to give Linc the benefit of the doubt that they could not have foreseen the full extent of the effect of the coming shale gas /tight oil thing on oil and gas prices and indirectly on UCG.
However , the oil exploration was surely a terrible misadventure as you point out .
I'm over in the U.K. and it seems like on mainland Europe , coal is making a come back for electricity generation . It may be that gas is only used for domestic and industrial heating .
Not anthracite but the locally sourced dirty wet brown lignite stuff .
Germany are building more lignite power stations and are going to pay them to operate on stand by rather than continually .
