Yes, mate as I said I agree with China but don't think they are single handedly behind this.

I think it's a bit more complicated than one post but you have many motives round commodities - supply, demand, acquisitions, sales etc.

Dont think the majors lIke Glencore will be sitting on their hands through this.

If a commodity runs hot and your company owns the lions share then thats fantastic in the short term.

But a high price will make many more projects viable, therefore much more product will come online and start a downward cycle anyway.

The big guys like Glencore and China Moly know this and make the long play.

They create issues, spread fear and discord and drive the price down either scaring the competition away or create a very cheap aquisition for themselves.

Then once they are set they jack prices up beyond the actual value and average out the last down period wIth the new hot period - only this time the own even more, so they actually average up.

I 100% agree the Chinese are making a massive play. After all there are OVER 800 EV companies already set up in ChIna so the demand is off the charts.

But to think its isolated to the Chinese is too short sighted. The chinese may have a sheetload of EV companies but they still make up only 55% of the battery megafactories. Which leaves some serious dollars at stake elsewhere.

As Simon Moores put it - we are In the middle of a global battery arms race.

The billions upon billions of dollars invested in these megafactories only make the decision to Invest in battery metals lIke cobalt even easIer - If you have a target of more than a few months.

Prices are cheap as chips now. Demand is off the charts and ever increasing. Seems a no brainer to me...
