Its interesting that they refer to artisanal mining supply as the swing producer but surely this is the least desirable way to obtain cobalt due to the higher chance that it has been unethically sourced?
With China seemingly purchasing their cobalt via the main producers, and other purchasers (vehicle manufacturers etc coming into the fray) looking to only obtain their cobalt via certifiably ethical means is it conceivable that this "swing producer" may not be able to be so influential in the future?
Also they talk of large stockpiles but Glencore (circa 40% of supply) stockpiles are full of uranium and the DRC has just halted their plant to remove the uranium, & the cobalt stockpiled by the artisanal miners isn't desirable due to ethical concerns (if the first point above is true), is it possible that true supply available to the market is massively overstated?
